How Much Debt Do You Currently Owe?

If that title made you puke a little in the back of your mouth, you’ll understand why I’ve built an entire new project within The Farmer Project dedicated to personal finance.

I’m tired of being scared of All Things Money ™.

Including debt.

Damnit.

The goal for the project is that I will have established a monthly budget habit, paid off all debts, have three months of emergency savings in the bank, have plenty of money for retirement at age sixty five, university savings accounts for all three minions, use savings and checking accounts to pay for things instead of credit cards and don’t stress about money anymore.

Damnit.

Back in December my checking account went negative. For three days.

“I make way too much money to go negative, right?”

No, apparently not.

If you’re not paying attention, the whole overspending thing will happen sometimes. Even when your income is LUDICROUS.

Not that my income is ludicrous but it’s quadrupled in the past three years and I finally hit that limit in December.

Which is ludicrous.

So I read a book.

Specifically, Kate Northrup’s Money: A Love Story.

And I wrote up an outline for the Personal Finance Literacy Project, aptly named, “A Penny Earned” with the following two goals:

  • Objective: Establish and Follow a Monthly Budget
  • Objective: Use Cash, Not Credit

And after finishing A Love Story, I added the goal:

  • Objective: Implement Paying-Attention Practices

One of those practices includes, “Monthly: Meet with an investment or financial consciousness group” but after sifting through meetup.com and googling quite a bit, I realized no existing group fits my specific needs.

Someone new to personal finance who wants to ramp up quickly and explore investments and passive income and such within six months that is not associated in any way with a financial advisor group or crypto currency and has absolutely no hidden agenda.

Which is why I created the Online Personal Finance Group.

“This is a group for anyone interested in personal finance, financial literacy, financial freedom, etc. All skill levels are welcome. On the outset, this will start as a financial book club with discussion groups each month, but my goal for the group is to morph into an investment / financial consciousness group with active steps towards decreasing debt, increasing income, and ultimately achieving early retirement and total financial freedom. Let’s explore money together.”

There ARE dues – $10/month – in order to cover the cost of making an organization within meetup.com – which is why there’s also a thirty day trial because we’ll meet once a month, on the last Tuesday of the month, so you can see if it’s what you need right now.

If it’s definitely where you want to be, though, reach out to me and we’ll make it work.

Because I want EVERYONE I KNOW to have established a monthly budget habit, paid off all debts, have three months of emergency savings in the bank, have plenty of money for retirement at age sixty five, university savings accounts for all three minions, use savings and checking accounts to pay for things instead of credit cards and don’t stress about money anymore.

If you’re keen.
