Defining Expansion & Contraction

I’ve been thinking a lot about Expansion and Contraction lately and realized that it’s not about growth versus stagnation.

It’s about possibility—what you have the capacity to handle in any given moment.

When you’re in a state of contraction, you can care ONLY for yourself.

Your energy is limited, and you’re just trying to meet your physical, emotional, and mental needs. Contraction isn’t failure or weakness; it’s necessary. Sometimes, you can only focus on your own well-being, and that’s okay. It’s a form of self-preservation.

Expansion happens when you’ve moved beyond survival mode.

When you’re in expansion, you have the energy to take care of yourself and extend that care outward—to others, to your work, and to life in general. Expansion is a Potential Possibility. It’s the state where you can balance your needs with those of the world around you.

The key is recognizing when you’re in each state and understanding that both are part of life.

Neither one is inherently better than the other.

Expansion allows you to give and grow, but contraction gives you the space to heal and recharge. Both serve a purpose and will enable you to navigate the complexities of life.

I’m learning to embrace the cycles of expansion and contraction in my life, honoring where I am in each moment without judgment.

It’s not about always striving for growth but acknowledging the possibility in each phase.
