[This is Our New Reality]
I haven’t stopped counting the lock down days because it’s still affecting us here in the Netherlands.
And it still will.
For a while.
But first the news:
- King’s golden coach under fire as racism debate rages in the Netherlands
- CALL FOR RACISM ISSUES TO BE TAUGHT AT PRIMARY SCHOOL
- George Floyd protests embolden anti-racism protesters in Europe
The twins have been super mildly sick. As in, the tiniest extra snot. And smallest coughs. No temperature. Full energy.
But.
As soon as the snot turned green, they were sent home. And weren’t allowed back for twenty four hours. Even though it was entirely gone within a few hours.
So now we’re stuck with two very energetic, very happy to be home, two year olds. Tall enough to reach dangerous things. Mobile enough to run from within sight to the kitchen in seconds. Strong enough to carry a little chair to reach the stove knobs one second later.
Welcome to our new norm.
This is our reality until a vaccine arrives and herd immunity is achieved.
I haven’t stopped amplifying voices that wish to be heard. And fighting for equality. And listening. And speaking up. And donating money. And educating myself. And engaging in meaningful dialogue.
And I still will.
For a while.
“If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there’s no progress. If you pull it all the way out that’s not progress. Progress is healing the wound that the blow made. And they haven’t even pulled the knife out much less heal the wound. They won’t even admit the knife is there.”
Malcolm X
The knife is there.
Pull it out. All the way. So the wound can heal.
It’s WELL overdue.

Welcome to our new norm.
This is our reality until equality is achieved and racism is abolished.
