It’s A Highly Effective Alarm Clock

[Dutch Lock Down Day One Hundred Fifty Two]

At some point in the night a massive thunderstorm came to play seemingly directly over our house and at FIVE this morning a particularly loud clap of thunder exploded in our room.

“JESUS CHRIST!”

It’s fascinating that when I’m startled out of my slumber by an act of nature I resort to my childhood exclamations of surprise.

At first I thought I’d go back to sleep.

Perimenopause said NOPE.

Part of the awesomeness of perimenopause is that Night Sweats.

Mine seem to happen when I accidentally wake up in the night. Or when the kids wake me up. Or when Thunder Rolls.

Once I’m awake, my temperature shoots up and now I’m a million degrees and there’s NO SLEEP FOR YOU MWAHAHAHAHA!! !

It’s the suck.

But, here’s the thing, because of the last WEEK of a million degree weather, I’ve been doing most of my exercise late in the evening, but yesterday I devised a plan to get to bed an hour early to try to wake up an hour early this morning.

An hour early is SIX, not FIVE, Universe.

But once the perimenopause kicked in the sweats I resigned myself to waking at 0530 and OH MY GODS, I’ve gotten SO MUCH DONE.

Yin yoga, languages studied, breakfast protein shake, blog post – WHAT!

I’m just as surprised as you are.

But the truth of the matter is that I used to do this every day. Go to bed by nine or ten, rise at five, kung fu class at six, work at eight thirty. And the only reason I stopped, well, besides moving to the Netherlands, is that I had kids. Now that they’re old enough, and I know I can sneak down the stairs without waking them, I can do this again.

Thank you, massive thunder boom of d00m, for waking me up before sunrise to remind me how awesome an early morning can be… let’s maybe never do it again, but I’ll set my OWN alarm clock accordingly.

I hope your wake up was not as startling as mine, Warriors, but that it was just as productive! How do you start the day? And when are you most productive? Do you know? Do you take advantage of that productivity? Why not?
