Say Hello To My Little Friend

[Dutch Lock Down Day One Hundred Eighty Five]

Yeah.

I totally slept in again today.

Will I get back on track tomorrow?

Probably?

Maybe?

I don’t know?

But first the news:

First, I want to introduce you to the perfect hand drawn circle. Drawn by the first genius of the Italian renaissance.

#Giotto

At some point when I was growing up, a teacher told me the story of a classic artist who, when he went to visit friends and they weren’t home, he would draw a perfect circle on a piece of paper and slip it under their door so they knew he had stopped by.

For some reason, I absolutely LOVED this idea.

I don’t even remember which teacher told me that, the point of their lesson, or where I was living at the time – just the idea of something abstract representing a person.

YESSS!! !

It’s one of the reasons why, when The Artist Formerly Known As Prince changed his name to a symbol, I was 100% on board. Also, his “Love” symbol was a mash-up of the gender symbols for man and woman – it spoke to my yet unlabelled gender.

When I started working with an artist to create a logo for me, I thought, initially, that I wanted to center in on the glasses I wear. It didn’t work out.

Then we noticed that the G plus the R could be abstracted to become a chameleon, but that didn’t work out either. Too corporate, really.

But then we dove into the chameleon itself. Purple as a mix of the feminine and the masculine. A chameleon as a shout out to my shifting survival skills from moving all over growing up. And my smile front prominently displayed.

I’m still figuring out how Prince (that’s the chameleon’s nickname, their actual name is The Chameleon Formerly Known As, obviously) fits in with the rest of my brand or ‘Groningen Rain’ but you’re going to see a lot more of them.

And I realised JUST NOW that their little eye is a circle. How perfect is that.
