The Whole Glorious Story

[Dutch Lock Down Day Three Hundred Fifty Eight]

In January, DevRel switched focus from product to partners and didn’t assign any work to the product team except for documentation. It was utterly demoralising to some of us. We were never told why the focus switched. Nor what we were expected to do in the interim. Or if we would be let go. And then our leadership had personal emergencies. And so we didn’t have guidance either.

I stopped producing.

Because I was so upset.

And then the Community Manager and I, the Developer Advocate, were laid off this week.

“We’re dissolving these positions.”

It sucks.

It hurts.

But.

It’s also just business.

But first the news:

The outpouring of love and support from yesterday’s post and such has been absolutely amazing and INCREDIBLE for the ego.

Thank you, Warriors.

That’s just what I needed to rebound.

Would I do it again knowing what I know now?

Definitely. It was a great experience and I learned a lot.

Do I recommend working at Equinix Metal and Equinix?

Absolutely. Both are great companies doing really well, even during COVID.

What’s next?

I’m looking for an EU or global remote Developer Advocate / Technical Evangelist / Community Manager / Program Manager with an open source company or project.
