I have been thinking about these three lines:
In Stillness, I Return to myself.
In Breath, I Remember my nature.
In Presence, I Awaken.
And I keep getting caught on the word return.
Because returning means I was already there.
Which is… inconvenient.
I think I have spent a lot of my life assuming that becoming myself was a construction project.
Find the right pieces. Remove the wrong ones. Sand down this bit. Strengthen that bit. Heal the broken bits. Upgrade the firmware. Maybe add some glitter.
Eventually, presumably, I would emerge from the workshop as Myself™.
Finished.
But return suggests something entirely different.
It suggests I am not a project.
It suggests that underneath all the noise and fear and expectations and Very Important Things I Am Supposed To Be Doing ™, there is already a me.
Waiting.
Not impatiently, even.
Just… there.
And then there is the next line.
In Breath, I Remember my nature.
Not discover.
Not decide.
Not improve.
Remember.
That word feels even stranger.
Because what if the things I think I am trying to learn about myself are actually things I already know?
What if some of this work I have been doing is less archaeology and more recognition?
There you are. I know you.
Maybe that is what stillness does.
Not silence everything. Not make the world disappear. Not turn me into some perfectly serene little woodland mystic who never gets irritated by traffic.
Just creates enough space for recognition.
And then breath.
And then presence.
In Presence, I Awaken.
I used to think awakening was supposed to be dramatic.
Thunderbolt!
Mind! BLOWN!!
Suddenly the universe cracks open and I understand Everything.
BOOM!! !
Which sounds exhausting, frankly. Maybe awakening is smaller than that. Maybe it is noticing that I am here.
Actually here.
Not rehearsing the next conversation. Not rebuilding the last one. Not negotiating with some imaginary future version of myself who has finally figured everything out.
Here.
Breathing.
Present.
Myself.
There is something wonderfully circular about those three lines.
I return.
I remember.
I awaken.
None of them ask me to become anything.
And I think that might be the part I am only beginning to understand.
Maybe I have spent so much time trying to find myself that I forgot to notice who was doing the looking.
