Some days you wake up and you’re like yes, today is the day I conquer the world.
You’ve got your to-do list, your coffee, your playlist, and for a few glorious hours, you’re unstoppable.
And then… BOOM.
It’s like someone pulled the plug. Suddenly you’re scrolling through videos of raccoons washing grapes or reorganizing your sock drawer like it’s a sacred ritual.
What The Actual??
I think part of it is that motivation is kind of like a sugar rush. It hits hard, feels amazing, and then crashes.
And procrastination? It’s like the comfy couch you fall into when the sugar wears off.
It’s not that you don’t care.
You care so much it’s exhausting. And that pressure to do things perfectly or efficiently or right now just fries your brain.
Also, let’s be real—our brains are not built for constant productivity.
We’re not machines.
We’re more like… moody weather systems. Sometimes sunny and focused, sometimes foggy and distracted.
And that’s okay.
The trick is not to beat yourself up when the fog rolls in. Just wait it out. Or maybe take a nap. Naps are underrated.
And then there’s fear.
Fear of failing, fear of succeeding (weirdly real), fear of starting. Procrastination is like a shield. If you don’t start, you can’t mess it up, right? But also, if you don’t start, you don’t get to see what you’re capable of. And that’s kind of tragic.
So yeah, we oscillate.
We swing back and forth because we’re human.
Because life is messy. Because sometimes we need a break and sometimes we need a push.
And maybe the goal isn’t to eliminate procrastination, but to understand it.
To notice when it shows up and ask, “What are you trying to protect me from?”
And then gently, kindly, get back to work when we’re ready.
